Honda Canada Foundation expands COVID-19 community response

Honda Canada Foundation (HCF), Honda’s charitable arm in Canada, announced today a $10,000 donation to support the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie and a $5,000 donation to support the Barrie Food Bank’s CareKitchen. The CareKitchen connects local restaurants with shelters and families in need to provide prepared restaurant meals. These donations build on the $1.5 million already committed by Honda companies across North America to support food insecurity, and to provide vital medical supplies and equipment for frontline healthcare providers.

“Barrie is a growing city which many of our associates call home,” says Tom Lake, Co-Chair, Honda Canada Foundation and Executive Vice President, Honda of Canada Mfg. “Investing in Barrie is a natural step as we work together to support vulnerable people in our communities by ensuring they have access to nutritious meals and shelter free from violence.”

“I want to thank the Honda Canada Foundation for their generous support for these organizations”, says Jeff Lehman, Mayor of Barrie. “At this very difficult time in our community, it’s incredible to see Simcoe County’s largest private sector employer stepping up with donations where they are needed most. These organizations have been among the hardest hit by increased demand since the arrival of COVID-19 and the assistance is both timely and most welcome.”

In addition to financial support, Honda Canada and Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) are donating personal protective equipment, including HCM built face shields, to hospitals and long-term care homes. Associates are also helping their communities through “virtual volunteering” opportunities and sorting food at the local food bank.
