Defect / Noncompliance Description

*Describe the defect or noncompliance:
Steering racks produced as replacement parts for Honda dealerships were assembled with an incorrect stroke length setting. If the steering rack stroke exceeds a certain length while driving, the tire, or tire with snow chains installed, could contact the lower suspension arm and/or tie rod end.

*Describe the safety risk:
If the tire, or tire with snow chains installed, contacts the lower suspension arm and/or tie rod end, the tire and/or snow chains could become damaged or punctured, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Identify any warning which can precede or occur:
Abnormal noise from the front tire/suspension area while turning.

Describe the cause:
During assembly, the supplier set the incorrect stroke length for the steering rack.

Identify the Remedy

Describe the defect / noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacturer’s plan for reimbursement:
Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will inspect and, if needed, replace the electric power steering rack with a non-defective part. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement.

Identify the Recall Schedule

Describe the recall schedule for notifications:
Dealer notification is scheduled to begin in October 2023. Owner notification is scheduled to begin in Nov. 2023.
