- Civic production is led for the first time by Canadian manufacturing operations

Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) today celebrated the global start of mass production of the all-new, dynamic 2016 Honda Civic sedan at its production facility in Alliston, ON. Slated to go on sale at dealerships across Canada later this fall, the all-new tenth generation Honda Civic is the most ambitious remake of the model in its 43-year history. Civic has been Canada's best-selling passenger car for the past 17 consecutive years.

This tenth generation model will continue to set a new benchmark in the compact class with fun-to-drive performance, fuel efficiency and safety performance, together with a new level of refinement," said Jerry Chenkin, president and CEO, Honda Canada Inc. "Canadians can also take pride in knowing that every Civic coupe, sedan and Si model sold in Canada is made right here in Ontario, for Canadians, by Canadians."
Today's ceremony follows Honda's previous announcement of a significant investment of $857-million over three years to innovate its three award-winning manufacturing plants with new technologies and processes.
As the global lead plant, HCM is not only the first plant in the world to launch the all-new Civic into mass production, but is also responsible for developing the processes and tooling that will form the manufacturing base at all Honda plants globally that will build the tenth generation Civic model.

More than 4.5 million Civics have been built at Honda's manufacturing facility since 1988 and Civic sales in Canada exceed 1.89 million units.
The Civic sedan is the first in a series of new tenth-generation Civic models that will also include a coupe, high-performance Si models, a 5-door hatchback and the first-ever Civic Type-R model for the Canadian market, comprising the most diverse and innovative lineup in Civic's history.
Backing up the new Civic's dramatic and sporty design with new power and efficiency, for the first time the 2016 Civic will feature two all-new engines – including the first-ever application of Honda turbo engine technology in North America. These powerful and fuel-efficient new engines combined with a sophisticated new body and chassis design deliver an incredibly responsive and sporty performance with a higher level of ride refinement and class-leading fuel efficiency.
Honda became the first Japanese automaker to manufacture cars in Canada in 1986 when the company opened the doors of its Alliston, Ontario plant. Since then, HCM has manufactured several models including the Honda Accord, Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline, as well as Acura EL, CSX, MDX and ZDX vehicles.
Employing more than 4,000 associates, HCM has the capacity to produce 400,000 Civic and CR-V models each year for the Canadian and North America markets, as well as for export. Of which, approximately 100,000 Canadian-built Civic and CR-V units are sold annually here in Canada. HCM also produces 260,000 four-cylinder engines yearly.
