Statement by Honda Canada Regarding Takata Airbag Inflator Recalls

Honda will recall approximately 704,700 vehicles in Canada following a recently announced defect determination by Takata regarding the driver front airbag inflators. All of the vehicles deemed at risk in Takata’s defect determination report were already subject to previous voluntary actions taken by Honda, including a previously announced Safety Improvement Campaign (SIC) for driver front airbag inflators – no additional vehicles have been included in this recall over and above those included in previously announced campaigns.

Driver’s Front Airbag Inflator Recall Transition
In December 2014, Honda Canada announced a voluntary Safety Improvement Campaign to replace driver front airbag inflators in certain 2001 through 2010 Honda and Acura vehicles. As a result of the defect determination made by Takata, Honda will transition these same vehicles, which would have already been eligible for a free repair under the voluntary SICs, into a formal recall - with no new additional vehicles added to the list of affected units.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in late June. In addition, owners of the affected models can determine if their vehicles require repair by going to or calling (877) 445-7754 for Honda owners and or calling (877) 445-9844 for Acura owners.
