Honda Civic Type R TRC Shows Pace at The Esses 120 at The Glen

  • Montreal Motorsport Group locks out the front row for the second-consecutive Michelin Pilot Challenge race
  • Quartet of Honda Civic Type R TCR machines fall victim to issues during the race

It all looked so good coming to the green flag for the Montreal Motorsports Group pair of Honda Civic Type R TCR Machines, with the #6 Honda of LP Montour starting on pole and the #93 of Dai Yoshihara starting alongside. The front row lockout was the second-consecutive for the MMG team, with the #93 starting on pole in the previous round at Mid-Ohio alongside the sister #6 Civic.

However, things quickly unraveled for the team with Montour suffering a cut tire on lap one, turn one, necessitating an early pit stop to change the tire, dropping him down to the rear of the field in the early stages. Though the team fought back in the two-hour IMPC event, they would come home ninth at the flag.

The #93 of Dai Yoshihara and Karl Wittmer also showed pace in the race, with Yoshihara leading following the misfortunes of the #6 car. However, an early pit speed penalty, and a later pit speed limiter that would not disengage following a stop, halted their run at the front. The #93 would be eighth on the day.

The #73 Honda Civic Type R TCR was credited with an 11th place after a brake hydraulic issue brought their day to an early end just 10 laps shy of the checkered flag.

Trouble started before the green flag for the #89 Honda Civic Type R TCR from HART, making contact with the #5 on the recon laps of the race. The HART crew worked hard to get the #89 back on track and Chad Gilsinger and Tyler Chambers would finish the race in the 13th position.
