Fifth, Sixth and Seventh for Honda Civic Type R TCR Machines at Mid-Ohio

  • Montreal Motorsport Group locks out front row in Michelin Pilot Challenge qualifying at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
  • Team finishes fifth and seventh with Honda Civic Type R TCR pair
  • HART scores sixth place finish, Racers Edge Motorsports finishes 11th

A quartet of Honda Civic Type R TCR machines tackled Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge O'Reilly Auto Parts Four Hours of Mid-Ohio, leaving the weekend with a front-row lockout and a fifth, sixth and seventh place result.

The Montreal Motorsport Group #93 started on pole position with Karl Wittmer setting a new track record en-route to MMG's second-consecutive pole. Wittmer and co-driver Dai Yoshihara would go on to lead the first 41 laps of the four-hour race, before being served a drive-through penalty for making contact with the #99. The duo would come home fifth at the line.

The sister #6 Honda Civic Type R TCR from MMG qualified third, but would move up to start alongside the #93 on the front row, making it an all-Honda force at the front. Co-drivers LP Montour and Bryan Ortiz would combine to lead 35 laps en route to a seventh-place finish.

Splitting the two MMG cars at the line was the HART machine, piloted by Chad Gilsinger, Steve Eich and Tyler Chambers, who fought their way forward after a pair of incidents in the race. A drive-through penalty for contact was followed by more contact from a GS-class car resulted in an unscheduled pit stop to remove grass blocking the radiation screen. But the trio recovered to finish sixth.

The fourth, and final Honda Civic Type R TCR machine from Racers Edge Motorsports, driven by Daniel Wu and Tazio Ottis qualified 16th and finished 11th in the race.
