Statement by Honda Canada Inc. Regarding 2nd Row Outboard Seat Safety Recall: 2011-2017 Honda Odyssey

  • 2nd row outboard seats may tip forward if not properly latched after seats are adjusted from side-to-side or reinstalling a removed seat
  • Vehicle owners to be advised of risk and proper seat operation until free-of-charge enhancement is available

Honda has initiated a voluntarily recall of approximately 70,000 previous generation Odyssey vehicles (model years 2011-2017) in Canada to advise owners of the proper operation of the second row outboard seats and to enhance the seat latching mechanism, free of charge, once an approved service is available. If a second row seat is not properly latched after adjusting it side-to-side or reinstalling a removed seat, the seat may tip forward during moderate to heavy braking, increasing the risk of injury to an occupant. This issue will not occur if a seat is properly latched. Honda has initiated this recall after receiving reports of minor injuries related to this issue in certain markets.

Honda is currently investigating the appropriate seat latching enhancement to help ensure proper latching and will notify owners when that free of charge service is available. In the interim, Honda has created a detailed instruction sheet (Odyssey 2nd Row Seat Latching Instructions) and will soon post a video on honda.ca/recalls, both detailing proper operation of the second row seats and highlighting the injury risk if a seat is not properly latched.

Honda is announcing this recall to notify owners how to properly latch the second row seats and to advise them of the availability of a free-of-charge latch enhancement in the future. Mail notification to owners of affected vehicles is expected in mid-December 2017. Beginning on November 21st, 2017, owners of 2011-2017 Odysseys vehicles may check to see if their vehicle is affected and read the instructions by visiting www.honda.ca/recalls or by calling 1-888-946-6329.
