Yesterday, Honda Canada showcased its fuel cell technology at a Ride-N-Drive in Ottawa in collaboration with The Canadian Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) Coalition of automakers. The event offered government officials the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Honda Clarity to experience first-hand the potential fuel cell technology has to contribute towards Honda's global vision of a carbon-free society.
Federal and municipal government officials including the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism, and Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson learned about Honda's advanced hydrogen technology and were among the first to drive the vehicle in Canada.
The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell represents the pinnacle of zero emissions vehicles. With its impressive fuel economy, quick-refills and zero emissions, the technology demonstrates enough capability to warrant more investment into its development, research and broader infrastructure across Canada.
The Ride-n-Drive coincides with Canada's hosting of the United Nations World Environment Day and Canada's Environment week, in the spirit of raising awareness of the substantial environmental benefits of zero-emission FCEVs powered by hydrogen. As Canada aims to meet the federal government's announced greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, conventional energy sources such as fossil fuels are no longer a sustainable option. With the development of the necessary infrastructure, the innovative technology in Hydrogen-powered vehicles will play an essential role in reducing emissions, maintaining healthy air quality, and reducing greenhouse gas emission rates.
