Last week, Honda Canada showcased its fuel cell technology at a Ride-N-Drive event in Quebec City in collaboration with The Canadian Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) Coalition of automakers. The event offered government officials the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Honda Clarity to experience first-hand the safety, environmental benefits and transformative potential of Hydrogen powered vehicles.
The event was attended by a number of Provincial and municipal government officials including the Honourable Premier, Philippe Couillard, David Heurtel, Minister of Sustainable Development, the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change and Pierre Arcand, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources among others, who learned more about Honda’s advanced hydrogen technology.
The Ride-N-Drive aimed at raising awareness of the substantial environmental benefits of zero-emission FCEVs powered by hydrogen. The Government of Québec is taking a leadership role in Canada to reduce GHG emissions to help meet international commitments and meaningfully address climate change. FCEVs will be eligible for credits under Québec’s new zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) standard.
Dedicated provincial funding to help build an initial network of publically accessible hydrogen fueling outlets and to support consumer and fleet FCEV purchases is a critical first step toward realizing the potential of FCEVs to help Québec achieve significant GHG emission reductions in transportation.
The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell represents the pinnacle of zero emissions vehicles. With its impressive fuel economy, quick-refills and zero emissions, the technology demonstrates enough capability to warrant more investment into its development, research and broader infrastructure across Canada.
