As President and CEO, Jerry Chenkin is responsible for all business operations at Honda Canada, Inc., including the Honda and Acura Automotive Divisions, and Honda Motorcycle, Power Equipment, ATV and Engine businesses. Additionally, he has overall responsibility for Honda’s Canadian manufacturing operations. He is also a board member on Honda’s North American Regional Operation Board, which oversees business development for all of North America.
Jerry joined Honda Canada in 1975, shortly after emigrating from London, England. In his 40 years with the company, Chenkin has played a key role in Honda Canada’s impressive growth from an importer of motorcycles and first-generation Civics, to becoming a major sales and manufacturing force in Canada and employer of approximately 4,700 Canadians. The Civic, introduced to Canada just two years before Jerry joined Honda, has been Canada’s best-selling car for the past 18 consecutive years.
Chenkin’s passion for cars began as a very small boy, when his father had to repeatedly tell five-year-old Jerry that he was too young to drive the family car. He vividly remembers everything about his first car, purchased well used for £50 in the late 60’s, only to have the transmission fail a week later.
Jerry’s passion for cars has never wavered, nor has his commitment to Honda Canada. Outside of work, Jerry plays squash and golf, travels as much as he can, and plays music to unwind. He is married with three grown children and two grandchildren.
