Honda Canada Foundation commits $300,000 to Southlake Foundation to support new moms and newborns in time for Mother’s Day

  • Honda Canada Foundation's first instalment covers three Panda Warmers needed to replace aging equipment

In time to help new moms this Mother's Day, Honda Canada Foundation is donating $300,000 over three years to Southlake Foundation in support of Southlake Regional Health Centre. The donation will be used to purchase equipment that supports the Maternal Child Health Program which is in keeping with Honda Canada Foundation's continued effort to make a positive impact in the communities where Honda associates and dealers live, work and play.

The first instalment will help pay for three Panda Warmers. Panda Warmers are needed in the birthing unit to maintain a temperature-controlled environment for newborns to thrive. The warmers are equipped with technology to monitor and track trends in temperature, weight and oxygen saturation levels.

"As our communities continue to grow, more families will depend on the exceptional care offered at Southlake's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit," said Tony Facciolo, Chair of the Honda Canada Foundation. "One of the pillars of Honda Canada Foundation is to support families and we are delighted our donation to Southlake will make a real, meaningful and ongoing difference for the youngest and newest members of our community for years to come."

Southlake Regional Health Centre delivers a wide range of healthcare services to the communities of northern York Region and southern Simcoe County. Over 2,600 babies enter the world at Southlake each year, 500 of which require advanced care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  Hospitals rely on donations from the community to fund new and replacement equipment.

"We are incredibly grateful for Honda Canada Foundation's long-standing support of Southlake Regional Health Centre," said Jennifer Ritter, President and CEO of Southlake Foundation. "Honda's generous gift towards our Homeward Campaign in support of our Maternal Child Program, will help ensure that the dedicated health care teams, caring for our newest and tiniest community members, will have the very best equipment to monitor, support, and provide critical care to some of our most vulnerable patients. Honda Canada Foundation's generous commitment to leading-edge health care in our community will support each one of those families on their journey homeward with their newest family members."
